The agouti grey yarn is ...Hi! Thanks for visiting.
The agouti grey yarn is really lovely ... and very "silky" ... very excited about this little fleece.
If you look back over a few of the posts I talk a lot about how I "wash" my fleeces. Essentially after skirting, I soak them for one week in cold rain water. This gets rid of all the "sheep grime" (in other words the suint, which is sheep sweat and dirt) but the lanoline remains in the wool. There is very little lanoline in ouessant fleece, just enough to make the fleece soft and lovely.
So in the strict sense of the term, I do spin in the grease ... BUT I do get rid of the suint first! As for the smell. After one week in cold rain water the fleeces smell wonderful! They are clean but they do smell slightly like sheep. Kind of like the smell of a 3 day old lamb. The ram fleeces smell ever so slightly musky, but not too much. After I spin & ply the yarn I wash the yarn in hot soapy water then dry to set twist. After washing in hot water the yarn no longer smells of sheep.Dianehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00441575291581193237noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4896440487841226448.post-87065705902441210032009-12-29T13:57:35.983+01:002009-12-29T13:57:35.983+01:00I love this! Your tweedy yarn looks absolutely beautiful and I expect you are now fully converted to the way of the agouti!

Did you spin this in the grease or give it a wash first to remove the manly sheep smell? I like a good, strong-smelling fleece myself but maybe a 3-year-old ram fleece would be too much even for my sheepy tastes!Felicity Fordhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17914100900983932997noreply@blogger.com
